Tips For Top Lawn Care In Port St. Lucie

Florida is a beautiful place and Port St. Lucie is one of the best locations to live if you love the outdoors and enjoy having a lush lawn and amazing gardens. However, lawns, even in this state, require a certain amount of care and attention to look their absolute best.

There are some simple lawn care tips that homeowners can use to bring out the beauty and fullness in their lawns. These tips are helpful for commercial property owners as well, particularly if they are not working with a lawn service.

Watering

In this part of the state, it is very easy to over water a lawn throughout the year. Too 3much water is just as detrimental to not enough when it comes to growth, so it is important to adjust your watering based on the season as well as the natural rainfall. Also, it is better to water slowly to allow the moisture to soak in.

The winter season requires the least amount of water. All that is required is watering about once a week and only 1 inch in total. The spring and fall will require more water, about an inch and a half in total and watering once or twice a week. The heavy growth time in the summer requires the most moisture. Water 2 or 3 times per week for about two to two and a half inches of water in total.

Fertilizer

As with watering, it is important to choose the correct fertilizer to add at the right time of year. Typically, the most effective use of fertilizer is in the spring and early summer, but good lawn care will include replenishing the macro and micronutrients the grass requires.

Organic types of fertilizers, including mulch and leaving the grass clippings on the lawn, can help to add both nutrients and a layer of organic matter on the surface. This helps to retain soil moisture even in the hotter days of the year.

Cutting the Right Amount

Not only should you make sure your lawn mower blades are sharp, but you should never cut more than one-third of length off the grass. This allows the grass to develop the proper root structure and to avoid creating a sparse, burnt out looking lawn.

You may see very short lawns in and around Port St. Lucie that look green, but they will not keep looking like that for very long. Ideally, having a professional lawn service take over your lawn care will give you the best results for a lifetime of beautiful grass.
