What Can Go Wrong with a Water Heater?

A hot water heater is an integral part of most people’s daily lives. Therefore, when it breaks, it’s a jarring experience, especially if you happen to have guests in your home. In order to know when you need water heater service in La Puente area, it is useful to know what can go wrong with your hot water heater in the first place. This depends mostly on the model; is it gas, electric or tankless?

Gas

Gas hot water heaters have been around the longest, and are still highly trusted by many people. However, this does not mean that they are without fault. You can be met with many of the same problems as with many other models, including a lack of hot water. If this occurs, you should check the pilot light, and try to re-light it if it is out. If you cannot or it is not producing the desired effects, that is when you should call a plumber.

Electric

Electric water heaters are also liable to stop producing hot water, in this case due to the circuit breaker. Try resetting it yourself, but if this does not work, call a plumber rather than fiddling with it yourself.

Any Tank Model

Any model with a tank can face issues with sediment build up. Excess sediment can cause a shortage of hot water, or it can cause the water in the tank to boil, resulting in loud noises emanating from it.

Tankless

Tankless water heaters are a relatively new development, but they already come with their own set of problems. For many of the issues a tankless water heater encounters, it simply shuts down. While this is a good indicator that something is wrong, it can also happen when you’ve just tried to use too much hot water at once. It can be more difficult to troubleshoot with a tankless water heater, but always check that the supply valves are connected and open. If you find yourself having frequent problems, call a plumber.

If you’re unsure of when you may need water heater service in La Puente, watch out for these issues. Some are more severe than others are, but all will influence your daily life.
