Knowing the factors that put one at risk for the state helps in preventing the disease.

Smoking

The older one gets, the higher the risk of getting the disease. Some habits and health conditions will put one at an even higher risk. Smoking is one of these habits. Smoking is one of the most significant causes of deaths in CVD or Cardiovascular Disease as this promotes inflammation of the blood vessels. Even those who do not smoke but are exposed to secondhand smoking is at risk.

High Blood Pressure

When one is diagnosed with having hypertension, due to the pressure that the heart is getting, this causes the arteries to be worn out and overworked. This condition has no symptoms and is therefore considered a silent killer.

Diabetes

Diabetes is caused to higher than normal blood sugar levels. There are two types- Diabetes type 1 and type 2. The first type makes one insulin-dependent as their pancreas stops producing the needed insulin. The second type is acquired, and this is due to one’s lifestyle. Due to the uncontrollable sugar levels at prolonged periods, this causes the arterial walls to narrow or what is called atherosclerosis.

Sedentary Lifestyle

Yes, sometimes genes have to do with it especially when it comes to your family’s health history. One thing’s for sure. It all boils down to your lifestyle. People that are pre-disposed to the disease but lead a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a healthy diet may not develop the disease. But people who are not predisposed but lead a sedentary and unhealthy lifestyle may develop vascular diseases. Regular exercise, healthy diet, no smoking, and other vices are still the best way to prevent the development of the disease.

Other factors cause one to be at risk of Vascular Disease like being overweight and high cholesterol levels. Being at risk does not necessarily mean you will develop the condition. One way of preventing it is through living a healthy life. Changing your lifestyle may save your life.
