How the Best Church Events Can Call You to Action

by | Feb 8, 2018 | Church

For more than two millennia, people have found a sense of guidance and community from their local churches. It is one of the great lasting legacies of church life, that they can provide a sense of belonging and helpS people find their place.

The best churches take it a step further, however, translating that sense of community into tangible, planned action. Here, then, are a few great church events which all Christians should consider.

Charity Drives

One of the central tenants of the Abrahamic faiths is charity. We see it in the sense of community shared among the Israelites. We see it in in Islam’s conception of zakat and giving back to the poor. And, of course, we see it throughout the New Testament, from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount to Chapter 13 of 1 Corinthians, wherein we’re told that “Charity suffereth long, and is kind,” and “abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.”

Among the noblest of church events, therefore, are those which concern charity. The best churches honor the spirit of Jesus, Paul, and the Abrahamic tradition by holding charity drives. Volunteering for such events is a great way to make these teachings come alive – the act of Charity ennobling the charitable as well as the recipients.

Bible Study and Engagement Seminars

One of the great services of churches throughout their history has been to get people to engage with and think about the Bible in different ways. This can sometimes lead to great social change, from the Protestant Reformation to the Biblical overtones of Martin Luther King’s Civil Rights rhetoric.

As such, some of the best church events are all about getting people to follow that centuries-old tradition and re-engage with the text. You’ll have the chance to hear others discuss their views on Biblical concepts, and you’ll be able to share your own as well, gaining a fresh perspective and learning to respect those of others.
